Resin & Wood Turning Class

Part 1: Thursday, March 26, 2026, 5 PM - 8 PM

This hands-on woodturning class introduces the creative fusion of wood and resin as students design and cast a 4-inch circular blank ready for the lathe. Participants will explore a variety of casting resins, learning the key differences between epoxy systems, cure times, clarity, hardness, and which formulations are best suited for artistic blanks versus structural pours. The session begins with casting fundamentals — selecting and preparing wood, sealing porous areas, mold setup, pigment and inclusion options, and proper mixing techniques to minimize bubbles and ensure a successful pour. Special emphasis will be placed on safe and effective use of pressure pots, demonstrating how controlled pressure improves clarity and reduces voids for professional-quality results. After curing, the class transitions to the lathe where students will true their blank and turn a small project from their custom pour. Instruction will cover tool selection, cutting techniques specific to resin-wood hybrids, sanding strategies, and finishing approaches that enhance chatoyance and depth.

New to the shop environment? Not comfortable around machinery? Spend a day getting to know your way around with one of our experienced instructors. Students will learn the purpose and safe operations of the primary stationary tools such as the tablesaw, jointer, planer, bandsaw and drill press. This hands on class will give you a taste of how these tools take raw material and turn it into finished projects. To the beginner woodworker, this class will pave the way for participation in Woodworking Fundamentals 1.

Knife Handle Making

From preparing a meal to camping, a good quality knife is indispensable! Sharpen your woodworking skills while you learn the basics of knife kit construction. Designed for any skill level, you’ll learn shaping and installing handles (scales), pins or rivets, sanding, and finishing to create a knife you’d be proud to use - or gift to someone special! Gain skills for safely using a drill press, bandsaw, oscillating/belt sander, clamps, epoxy, and wood finish. All materials and knife parts are included in this fun 3-hour class led by an experienced, expert instructor. Each participant should be able to take home a one-of-a-kind knife at the end of this workshop. Minimum age 14 with parent or guardian present during the class. Please bring your own safety glasses and dust mask.

Turn a Live Edge Bowl

A live edge bowl celebrates the natural character of the tree, preserving the outer bark and organic contour as part of the finished form. In this class, you’ll turn a side-grain blank into a beautifully balanced bowl while learning how to work with the irregularities that make each piece unique. Students will focus on proper tool control using bowl gouges, safe mounting techniques, and how to read grain direction to achieve clean cuts along both the interior and exterior surfaces. Special attention is given to maintaining the live edge profile, creating flowing curves, and refining wall thickness for both strength and elegance. By the end of the session, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind live edge bowl that highlights the raw beauty of natural wood—complete with bark, voids, and subtle variations that make each piece truly individual.

In order to get clean, tight-fitting joints in your woodworking projects, you must be able to accurately flatten, square, and true-up your boards before you even begin the joinery. Whether you're new to hand-cut joinery or have attempted dovetail joints in the past with mixed results, this class offers a practical approach to executing this time-honored joinery technique, regardless of skill level. During the course you will learn layout and marking as well as sawing and chiseling techniques which you will employ to cut both 'through' and 'half-blind' dovetails. There are numerous methods for creating these joints (with good results), but what works well for some may not work for others. In order to overcome this common problem, Ben will cover several different hand tool and technique options throughout the class which will allow for an individually tailored road map to success. By the end of this course you will have developed the confidence to tackle any project utilizing the dovetail joint

Making a Picture Frame

Have you ever gone to one of those expensive framing shops and been taken back by the cost of a picture frame? Here is the opportunity to learn how to make your own frames and save money. The Picture Framing class will show you the basics for measuring and making your own picture frames. You will be shown how to use woodworking joinery that can be incorporated in your framing projects which are not only functional, but decorative as well. You will use the jointer and table saw to square stock, the table saw and the electric miter saw to cut mitered corners, and the router table to create assorted decorative profiles for your frames. Students will make the components for an 8" X 10" picture frame.

Bowl Turning 101

Turned wooden bowls can make your dining experience truly memorable or create a display piece to show off your talent. This class will focus on using basic turning tools and techniques to create these wooden bowls. Students will turn a bowl using a recess and expanding chuck system to mount their bowl blank. Please don't wear sweater type material. Woodworking with Epoxy Resins

Tuesday, April 21, 2026, 6 PM - 9 PM

In this class Claire will teach you how to use artist resins in your everyday woodworking projects turning your ordinary piece of wood into a work of art. You will use the Total Boat Makerpoxy Artist's resin. Students will practice mixing and pouring the epoxy on plywood first. The last epoxy pour will be on a piece of wood prepped for them. Students will be able to pick up their projects the next day. You can either make it a charcuterie board or even just a piece of artwork to hang up in your home and you do not have to be an artist! This class allows you to create and leave with a technique that you can add to just about any woodworking project! Please do not wear flip flops, loose clothing or clothing that you wouldn't want damaged in case of possible drips from the epoxy. :)

Pyrography 104 Portraits

In this class students will learn pattern development from a photograph and how to transfer pattern to wood or paper. Learn the skill of shading build up, picking, and highlights to build an almost photo quality portrait. This is a two day class and has homework. Are you just starting woodworking or feel overwhelmed by the wide variety of finishes available? Are you unsure whether to use water-based or oil-based finishes? Does the thought of using a stain terrify you? This class can help. This class addresses the following questions:  Why use a finish on my project?  What different types of finishes are currently on the market?  What is a build finish compared to a penetrating finish?  What preparation is necessary when finishing certain woods?  What happens if you sand too much, or too little?  How does the type of wood affect stain and finish?  What should I consider when using a sanding sealer or pore filler?  Why must you sand between coats on some finishes and not others?  When may one type of finish be preferred over another? The class will include samples of different finishes and quick demonstrations showing the effects of different finishes on different types of wood.

Cabinet Carcass Making

Have you toyed with the idea of building your own cabinets for the kitchen, or the garage? And, as all woodworkers realize, the shop never has enough storage? If this synopsis connects with you, then Woodcraft's new Cabinet Making Series may fill the bill for you. The Cabinet Making Series is designed to maintain continuity by combining all the components of basic cabinetry in 17 hours (three sessions) of classroom and ptractical hands on instruction. Students will learn bisc fundamentals in how to choose and prepare stock to construct Base Units, Upper Wall Units, Drawers and Raised Panel Doors. Stock preparation will be accomplished utilizing the jointer, planer, electric miter saw, tablesaw and router table. Cabinet carcasses will be assembled using standard techniques and face frames will be assembled and attached using the Kreg Pocket Hole System. So, come on out, learn the techniques for making your own cabinets from the planning stage to ta finished product complete with drawers and doors.

In the raised panel door class, Mike teaches the students how to design, measure, and size the door to match the opening of the cabinet. Once that is done, students then cut out all of the parts using the miter saw, table saw, and router table. Each student will make and take home a completed raised panel door.

Wood carving is one of the oldest forms of art that originated the first time a human shaped a piece of wood with a sharp stone. Whittling developed when sharpened metal knives were used to carve a hand held piece of wood making whittling one of the earliest forms of carving. In this class, you will learn to carve your own wooden chain from a single piece of wood. The techniques learned can be used to make a chain of any size or length. (The Guinness World record is 487.5 feet long from a single piece of wood!)

We'll cover the use of water stones, diamond stones, honing guides, and strops to help you achieve razor-sharp edges that make woodworking smoother, safer, and more enjoyable. You'll also learn the secrets of resawing: a technique that can save you money and add uniqueness to your projects.

SketchUp Class

his is a beginning course on how to use Sketchup to design your woodworking projects. The objective of the course is to teach students the basics of Sketchup. We will walk through basic wall layout for projects, and a basic cabinet build within that wall area. Then each student will build a basic workbench and layout of a parts list. Students will need to contact the instructor at least 1 week in advance to get an email with their packet of items and software needed. Students will need to bring a laptop and a mouse.

Pat Carroll's Square Box with a Finial

World famous, Pat Carroll, has moved to the United States. Pat Carroll discovered woodturning in 2001 while working as a builder and carpenter. Early lessons with Willie Stedmond, a founding member of the Irish Woodturners Guild, helped shape his path in the craft. His work has earned recognition through demonstrations, awards, published articles, and inclusion in collections around the world. Today, Pat also delivers interactive remote demonstrations and co-hosts the online program “Meet the Woodturner,” connecting woodturners and artists globally. Pat will teach a turned square box with a lid and finial—a great project that combines spindle and bowl turning skills. Starting from square blanks, we will locate centers, mount the pieces on a screw chuck, and carefully shape the body with a bowl gouge and scraper. The interior will be hollowed and sanded smooth before turning a fitted lid and finishing it with a hand-turned finial. A fun project that highlights precision fitting, light cuts, and thoughtful shaping to bring a simple block of wood into an elegant lidded box.

Long Stem Natural Edge Bowl

In this class, students will create an elegant natural edge goblet made from three separate components: a natural edge bowl, a turned stem, and a base. The bowl is turned from a 6” diameter by 4” deep side-grain blank to preserve the bark edge, creating a beautiful organic rim. The 10” × 2” spindle-oriented stem is shaped to provide balance and flow, while the 4½” × 2” side-grain base completes the form and provides stability. Participants will learn proper mounting techniques, shaping with bowl and spindle gouges, refining curves with scrapers and a skew, sanding techniques, and finishing with matte black and clear satin lacquer. The class will also cover safe tool use, sharpening, and methods for fitting the three components together to create a balanced finished piece. Students should bring the required turning tools, sanding supplies, chucking equipment, and finishing materials listed for the class. This project is a great opportunity to practice both bowl and spindle turning while creating a striking natural edge form.

CNC Basics

This is an introductory course to CNC. Students will learn the basic components of a CNC machine and fundamentals of how to design and machine a simple sign. This class will focus solely on software usage on your personal laptop. Nothing will be physically made in this class.

Pyrography 102-Still Life

Take your pyrography skills to the next level with artist Jim Vogel. In this class Jim will teach you the skill of line quality and control, and the use of shading using different pen tips. With these skills students will be able to burn realistic projects creating a still life scene.

Tablesaw Basics

Saturday, June 27, 2026, 9 AM - 5 PM

Without a doubt, the tablesaw is the most important power tool in the shop. Safely ripping stock to width, accurately cutting parts to length, cutting angles, bevels and making tenons and tapers are just a few of the tasks that an accurately set up tablesaw excels at. Understanding how the saw works is one of the goals of this new class and basic common sense safety will be covered thoroughly. We will begin with techniques to make safe and specialized cuts such as making accurate tenons and miters. Saw blade selection, dado blades and some of the commercially available accessories will be discussed. We will also demonstrate some basic but important shop made jigs. While this class will mostly be dom only, students will have the opportunity to do some cutting on the saw in order to make sure that each participant understands the techniques being shown.

Small boxes have a wide variety of uses and make excellent gifts. They can be carved, accented with inlay or highly figured woods and decoratively changed with the router. In this class you will make a box using mitered joints and spline construction.

Knife Handle Making

From preparing a meal to camping, a good quality knife is indispensable! Sharpen your woodworking skills while you learn the basics of knife kit construction. Designed for any skill level, you’ll learn shaping and installing handles (scales), pins or rivets, sanding, and finishing to create a knife you’d be proud to use - or gift to someone special! Gain skills for safely using a drill press, bandsaw, oscillating/belt sander, clamps, epoxy, and wood finish. All materials and knife parts are included in this fun 3-hour class led by an experienced, expert instructor. Each participant should be able to take home a one-of-a-kind knife at the end of this workshop. Minimum age 14 with parent or guardian present during the class. Please bring your own safety glasses and dust mask.

Woodworking with Epoxy Resins

In this class Claire will teach you how to use artist resins in your everyday woodworking projects turning your ordinary piece of wood into a work of art. You will use the Total Boat Makerpoxy Artist's resin. Students will practice mixing and pouring the epoxy on plywood first. The last epoxy pour will be on a piece of wood prepped for them. Students will be able to pick up their projects the next day. You can either make it a charcuterie board or even just a piece of artwork to hang up in your home and you do not have to be an artist! This class allows you to create and leave with a technique that you can add to just about any woodworking project! Please do not wear flip flops, loose clothing or clothing that you wouldn't want damaged in case of possible drips from the epoxy. :)

Rush Weaving a Footstool/Campstool

Rush seating is a very old craft - examples have been found in the tombs of Egypt, and in England, the craft has been practiced since the 14th Century. It has always been admired for its simplicity, durability, and comfort. With the recent interest in traditional crafts and vintage furniture, rush seating is once again enjoying a revival. In this class, you will assemble a heavy duty footstool (approx. 12”x9”x9” -included in tuition) and weave the top with paper fiber rush cord for a project to be proud of. The techniques learned can be used on other seating options such as chairs and barstools, and for repairing or restoring family heirlooms.

Router Basics

One of the first hand held power tools every novice wood worker should have in their arsenal is the router. With an assortment of sharp cutter bits, the router will become one of the most used small power tools in the shop. Although highly versatile, the router can be very intimidating; due to its size and the speed and torque it develops. In the Router 101 class, students will learn how to choose a router, the types of bases used with the router, and the care and feeding (maintenance) of the router. Students will also learn about the categories of router bits, the components used to identify them, what goes into the making of a router bit, and what to look for in making a choice of which bit best meets their needs. So come on out, bring your router and bits if you have them and learn basic routing techniques and tips and tricks to enhance your routing skills.

Making a Picture Frame

Have you ever gone to one of those expensive framing shops and been taken back by the cost of a picture frame? Here is the opportunity to learn how to make your own frames and save money. The Picture Framing class will show you the basics for measuring and making your own picture frames. You will be shown how to use woodworking joinery that can be incorporated in your framing projects which are not only functional, but decorative as well. You will use the jointer and table saw to square stock, the table saw and the electric miter saw to cut mitered corners, and the router table to create assorted decorative profiles for your frames. Students will make the components for an 8" X 10" picture frame.

Whether you're new to hand-cut joinery or have attempted dovetail joints in the past with mixed results, this class offers a practical approach to executing this time-honored joinery technique, regardless of skill level. During the course you will learn layout and marking as well as sawing and chiseling techniques which you will employ to cut both 'through' and 'half-blind' dovetails. There are numerous methods for creating these joints (with good results), but what works well for some may not work for others. In order to overcome this common problem, Ben will cover several different hand tool and technique options throughout the class which will allow for an individually tailored road map to success. In this class students will learn pattern development from a photograph and how to transfer pattern to wood or paper. Learn the skill of shading build up, picking, and highlights to build an almost photo quality portrait. This is a two day class and has homework. Students will need their own woodburning unit, pens and tips.

Cabinet Carcass Making

Have you toyed with the idea of building your own cabinets for the kitchen, or the garage? And, as all woodworkers realize, the shop never has enough storage? If this synopsis connects with you, then Woodcraft's new Cabinet Making Series may fill the bill for you. The Cabinet Making Series is designed to maintain continuity by combining all the components of basic cabinetry in 17 hours (three sessions) of classroom and ptractical hands on instruction. Students will learn bisc fundamentals in how to choose and prepare stock to construct Base Units, Upper Wall Units, Drawers and Raised Panel Doors. Stock preparation will be accomplished utilizing the jointer, planer, electric miter saw, tablesaw and router table. Cabinet carcasses will be assembled using standard techniques and face frames will be assembled and attached using the Kreg Pocket Hole System. So, come on out, learn the techniques for making your own cabinets from the planning stage to ta finished product complete with drawers and doors.

Raised Panel Doors

In the raised panel door class, Mike teaches the students how to design, measure, and size the door to match the opening of the cabinet. Once that is done, students then cut out all of the parts using the miter saw, table saw, and router table. Each student will make and take home a completed raised panel door.

Turn wood into light! Join renowned turner Joy Cowan for a two-day hands-on workshop where you’ll create a 10” tall stack lamp using both spindle and side-grain turning techniques. You’ll turn five stacked elements to form the lamp column, shape a complementary base, drill for wiring, and learn finishing techniques including color and texture. (Finishing will not be completed in class.) Joy will also walk you through lamp wiring basics so you leave with both skills and confidence.

Make An Acoustic Guitar

Many of those who have played or even admired the beauty of the guitar have shown interest in someday making an heirloom instrument that can be played today and passed on and continued to be played for generations. This class is designed to take a beginner/intermediate woodworker through the steps to make a steel string acoustic guitar from a unique kit. You will learn the terminology and the techniques focused on many of the specialized processes to complete your own personalized intrument. The process is broken down into small steps to familiarize the student with the construction of the neck including truss rod intallation, fingerboard & fretting, abalone inlay and construction of the body including brace trimming/fitting, top installation, bridge gluing/alignment, purfling and final fit up of the neck to body joint using a bolt-on system. Each guitar will be comleted leaving the final top cote finish up to the student. Two models are available- Sapele & Sycamore
